Frequently Asked Questions
Can my taxes be raised because I filed a grievance? +
No. Your assessment can only go down or remain the same.
What about the 'reassessment'? +
Nassau County conducted a reassessment, which is being phased in between 2020 and 2025. This means tax increases for about two thirds of Nassau homeowners. The 2024/25 assessment year was the fifth and final year of this process.
Will anyone from the assessor's office come to my house? +
No one from the County or TCA will come to your home.
Will I have to attend any hearings? +
No. TCA prepares and files all papers and makes all appearances for you.
What is your fee? +
Our fee is 40% of savings attained at ARC, or 50% of first-year’s savings attained at SCAR. There is also a $30 court-imposed filing fee – that goes to the court, if and only if we go to court, and may or may not be refunded to you at a later date. We only bill for first-year’s savings, even if multi-year savings occur, and we only bill after you have enjoyed at least half the savings on your property tax bills.
How long does this process take? +
About two years. If you sign up in September 2025, for example, for 2027/28, then savings (if any) do not accrue until October 2027, and our TCA bill for services does not come due until early 2028.
